Shailesh Vara acknowledges the difficult situation for EU citizens living in the UK whilst their status post-Brexit remains unclear, but highlights the need to simultaneously consider the position of UK nationals living in the EU.
Shailesh Vara speaks in a debate on the restoration of Parliament and calls for the Palace to be restored in phases so that the iconic building can remain as the seat of Parliament which is important to the UK’s international standing at a time when we seek to make new trade agreements after Brexit.
Shailesh Vara highlights the transitional arrangements already in place for the introduction of changes to the state pension age for women and condemns opposition parties for playing politics with the issue by claiming that there are no such arrangements and giving women false hope as further transitional arrangements are simply unaffordable if we are to maintain a sustainable pension system for the future.
Shailesh Vara questions the Prime Minister on the forthcoming report on integration and calls on her to send a clear message that the best way to secure a harmonious society is not only for mainstream Britain to respect minority traditions but for minority communities to also respect the views and traditions of mainstream Britain.
