Shailesh Vara will visit the brand new Peterborough City Hospital tomorrow.

Mr Vara will be taken around the £335 million hospital by Mr Nik Patten, Chief Executive of the Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The new hospital welcomed its first patients on Monday 15th November, the culmination of 16 years work with the NHS Trust having started the process for a rebuild in 1994. Among the new facilities are patient services not previously available in Peterborough, for example a new radiotherapy suite for cancer patients, meaning patients will no longer be faced with long journeys for treatments in hospitals further afield.

Mr Vara said:
“It is great to be visiting this state-of-the-art hospital and I am looking forward to being shown the new facilities by the Chief Executive Nik Patten. This new hospital is a fantastic asset for Peterborough which will provide excellent care and treatment for local people.

“The Hospital stands as a landmark to all the hard work from the local NHS Trust and its employees, and it gives me tremendous pleasure to congratulate all involved on this enormous achievement.”

Mr Patten added:
“I am delighted to be able to show Shailesh around Peterborough City Hospital. When he last visited it was a construction site, so I am really pleased to be able to show him how our patients and staff are settling in to our first-class facilities.”
