Shailesh Vara, Member of Parliament for North West Cambridgeshire, gave a talk on Friday 21st January to students at St. Ivo School on the role of an MP, what the Government does, and why it is important and relevant to young people.

Mr Vara’s visit was arranged by Miss Amanda Crelin, the Head of Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) at the School, with a view to learning what more the Government can do to encourage greater involvement from young people in politics.

Commenting Mr Vara said:
“As an MP, I am often told that more can be done by politicians to reach out to young people and I agree entirely. This is why I was delighted to talk to St. Ivo students about my role in Parliament and the Government, and why politics is important and relevant to young people.

“But I am also here to listen and exchange views about the issues that matter to students.”

Miss Crelin also said:
“I am grateful to Shailesh for coming to the School, because it is important for the students to have an accessible face in politics to help make it more meaningful. This is a great opportunity for both the students and Shailesh to share views and ideas.”
