Vara reviews recycling business

Shailesh Vara MP along with Huntingdonshire District Councillor, Peter Bucknell, visited the Woodford Recycling Facility in Warboys.

Mr Vara and Cllr Bucknell met with Mr Mark Farren, Managing Director of the company and were shown around the site.

Woodford Recycling moved into Warboys in 2010 and wound-up the previous contentious landfill enterprise whilst simultaneously developing an efficient recycling business. Some £3 million has been invested into a specific construction and demolition materials recovery facility in addition to new office and staff space. The current business is capable of diverting nearly 100% of waste received away from landfill and the company continues to invest in order to expand the range of services it can offer.

Following the visit, Mr Vara said: -

“There is a marked difference to how the landfill site now looks since it was taken over in 2010.

The investment into the recycling business is impressive as is its ability to divert nearly all of the waste it receives which would usually be destined for landfill.

I wish Woodford Recycling every success for the future and hope that its story will be used as an example for industry to follow in years to come.”

Cllr Peter Bucknell commented:

“As Chairman of Warboys Landfill Liaison Group, I am extremely pleased that we have another company in Warboys offering local jobs. After 18 long years we are finally seeing the end of the landfill site and a transition to efficient recycling services in a new building with very little material going into landfill. The site restoration plan is well under way and hopefully local residents will start to see wild grasses and flowers.”

Mark Farren, Managing Director of Woodford Recycling Services Ltd added:

I was really proud to show Shailesh our new Materials Recovery Facility and demonstrate how we are working towards 100% landfill diversion. The investment we have made at Woodford Recycling ensures that we continue to deliver a first class service to our customers, providing them with cost effective solutions whilst minimising our impact on the environment.”
