Shailesh Vara, Member of Parliament for North West Cambridgeshire, opened Produce World Group’s new head Office in Peterborough on Friday 9th September, 2011.

Originally founded in 1898 by Harry and Percy Burgess, Produce World remains in the same family and has become one of Europe’s largest expert growers and suppliers of quality fresh vegetables.

The Group is recognised as being an industry leader in sustainable and responsible agronomy, growing and lean supply chain management, and has won several awards for its accomplishments.

During Mr Vara’s visit, as well as officially opening the new offices, he met Mr William Burgess, Chief Executive Officer along with other members of the Group’s board.

The new office will strengthen Produce World’s existing business as well as helping the local economy with increased job prospects. Moreover, the Group will provide a wider set of social benefits to the region as it is a driving force in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) within the industry, prioritising such areas as Responsible Sourcing, Environmental Stewardship, Community Impact and Workplace Culture, which it delivers through its Growing Trust CSR programme.

Mr Vara said: -

“It was a great pleasure to open the new Head Office for Produce World Group, which is a great success story for British business. The group has gone from strength to strength over the years and it continues to play a significant role in the local economy. As a leader in its field, the Group’s progress has rightly been recognised in the array of awards that it has won, in a highly competitive market.

“These new offices reflect continued success and I wish the Group well for the future.”

William Burgess, Chief Executive of Produce World also said: -

“We were delighted to welcome Shailesh Vara MP to open Produce World’s new Head Office. These offices are an important part of the continuing development of our business. Over the past five years we have seen our sales grow more than two and half times to some £218 million for the year 2010. We have brought together a number of companies into one united group, which is today one of the leading fresh produce companies in the UK and Europe.”
