Shailesh Vara has called on Peterborough City Council to extend the period of public consultation over plans for the Great Haddon development.

Shailesh Vara, MP for North West Cambridgeshire, has called on Peterborough City Council to extend the period of public consultation over plans for the Great Haddon development.

Outline planning permission is being sought by developers to build a new development of over 5,000 homes as well as retail, office and commercial units.

The formal consultation period started in December and ends on 20th January.

Mr Vara said:

“Given the huge scale of the proposals, and the implications on not just Peterborough but also a much wider surrounding area, I believe the time allowed for responses from members of the public is far too short. This has been made worse because much of the consultation period was covered by the Christmas and New Year period.

“I am working closely with Cllr Sheila Scott on the matter and I know she too has concerns, including about the infrastructure. Residents need to be given adequate time to express their views as fully as possible.

”I have already contacted the Council and made my point to them. I hope that they will review the matter and extend the consultation period.”
