Shailesh Vara MP is backing the Football Association’s ‘Biggest Ever Football Session’, which is taking place on Wednesday 8th March 2023.

The ‘Biggest Ever Football Session’ encourages girls to play football in schools across the country on the same day. The initiative is part of the ‘Let Girls Play’ campaign promoting equal access to the sport.

At present, only 67% of schools in England offer football equally to girls and boys. The FA’s ambition is to have 90% of schools offering equal access to football by 2024.

Following England Women’s historic Euro 2022 triumph, Mr Vara is encouraging as many local schools as possible to participate in the event.

Mr Vara said:

“This is a great initiative by the FA and it will help to improve football participation among girls in schools. I very much hope that as many schools as possible in my constituency and in the country will take part, particularly following the recent success of the Lionesses who won the UEFA Women’s Euro trophy last summer.”
