Shailesh Vara MP has welcomed the news that unemployment has fallen both locally and nationally according to new figures released by the Office for National Statistics today.

The national rate of unemployment is at its lowest since records began and the figures show unemployment is down in North West Cambridgeshire by 68% when compared to June 2010. In the last year, two thirds of the rise in employment has been from full time work. Locally, young people claiming Job Seekers Allowance has fallen by 30% compared to June last year.

Mr Vara said:

“This is very good news for our area. We have seen a continued decline in unemployment since 2012. The Government’s long term economic plan has given businesses confidence to hire more staff and to continue to grow. This is very positive news and it demonstrates the strength of our local and national economies.”
