The announcement by the Rt Hon David Laws for additional funding for Cambridgeshire schools has been welcomed by Shailesh Vara MP. The existing funding formula is outdated and has seriously disadvantaged local schools for many years.

Mr Vara, along with other Cambridgeshire MPs and organisations, has long campaigned for the formula to be revised and with his fellow MPs met with David Laws, the Minister responsible, to press for the necessary changes.

Following the announcement, Mr Vara said:

“This is excellent news and it is good to see that the promise made by the Minister, David Laws to myself, Jonathan Djanogly and other local MPs when we met him has come to fruition. The 7% increase to the schools budget, totalling £20 million will make a considerable difference. The real winners are of course the local children. The money is vitally important to enable them to have the education they deserve to properly compete alongside young people from the rest of the country.”
