Shailesh Vara MP has congratulated local champion Mark Heath on receiving the Prime Minister’s Points of Light award for his tireless involvement in the Connecting Cambridgeshire superfast broadband programme and his voluntary work with the Spaldwick Welcome Club.

The Prime Minister’s Points of Light awards recognise outstanding individuals who are making a change in their community and are inspiring others. Mr Heath has supported the Connecting Cambridgeshire superfast broadband programme since its inception in May 2012. His voluntary work for Spaldwick Welcome Club, a social organisation for those who are 55 and over, was instrumental in helping more than 50 people engage with the internet and enable them to access digital services. Mr Heath also maintains and blogs on the Spaldwick Village Community Website (www.spaldwick.com/author/markheath).

Mr Vara said:

‘I am delighted that Mark Heath has won the prestigious Points of Light award.

It is important that all members of society are able to enjoy the benefits of modern technology and Mark’s commitment to helping his local community, especially the elderly, has rightly been recognised.

Mark’s effort is making a real difference to people’s lives and his award is well deserved.’
