Shailesh Vara MP officially opened the Cardea Community Sports Pavilion in Peterborough on Saturday, 16th July 2016.

The event, which was attended by local residents, councillors and members of the Cardea Community Sports Association, is the culmination of years of work by volunteers to provide recreational amenities for local residents.

Work on the pavilion began in August 2015 and used Section 106 monies as part of the development in Cardea. The Pavilion is not only designed as a sports centre, with its four sports pitches, multi-use gaming area, changing rooms and meeting rooms, but also as a communal space with halls available for use during the day. A weekend of activities took place to celebrate the opening of the pavilion including: a car boot sale, youth football tournament hosted by Park farm pumas and a barbecue.

Following the opening, Mr Vara said: -

“Cardea is a vibrant, new community and it was a real pleasure to open the new pavilion. The pavilion has excellent facilities which will be a real asset. A huge thank you is due to all those who have worked so hard to make this a reality.

“I have no doubt that the pavilion will continue to serve the community for many years to come.”
