Shailesh Vara, Member of Parliament for North West Cambridgeshire, is opposing the proposed traveller site along Straight Drove, Farcet, and will be taking up the matter directly with Huntingdonshire District Council.

Mr Vara has been contacted by constituents voicing their concern with the proposed site. Moreover, at a Parish Council meeting last week at which over 50 local residents were present, it was agreed to object to the application.

In 2010, Mr Vara campaigned against a number of traveller sites which were planned for his constituency and, following a change in Government policy, succeeded in stopping their progression.

Mr Vara said: -

“It is important that traveller sites are located in appropriate places, and the proposal here is simply not suitable. I am objecting for a number of reasons including the potential danger arising from poor vehicular access to the site and the lack of a footpath linking it to the village. I will be taking this matter up directly with Huntingdonshire District Council and relaying to them the concerns of the local community”
