Shailesh Vara MP today expressed his deep concern that Coca Cola have announced the possibility of redundancies at their site in Morley Way, Woodston due to a decline in direct deliveries.

Of the 161 employees, 63 are at risk. There will be a 90 day consultation with employees and unions and a final decision will be taken at the end of the consultation.

Mr Vara has written to Simon Baldry, UK Managing Director of Coca Cola, asking him to do all that he can to retain as many employees as possible.

Following Coca Cola’s announcement, Mr Vara said:

“I am really disappointed by this news. This is a substantial number of people from the total workforce and the news will doubtless be devastating for those concerned. I have written to Simon Baldry, the UK Managing Director of Coca Cola and urged him to do all that he can to retain as many jobs as possible, including relocating people to other work. If there are to be redundancies at the end of the consultation then I have asked Mr Baldry that Coca Cola should do more than the statutory minimum to help those affected.”
