Vara visits successful galvanizing company in Sawtry

Shailesh Vara MP recently met with Chris Woolridge, Managing Director of Wedge Group Galvanizing along with non-executive Director, Rob Marris at their galvanizing plant in Sawtry, Huntingdonshire.

Mr Vara had a tour of the facilities and saw first-hand the benefits of galvanizing steel and the variety of products that are treated at this local plant.

The Wedge Group is the UK’s largest hot dip galvanizing company and is going from strength to strength serving many different sectors such as rail, utilities as well as gas & oil throughout the UK and beyond. In Sawtry, the plant operates under East Anglian Galvanizing Ltd serving Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and other surrounding counties.

Following the visit, Mr Vara said “It is great to see successful industrial companies like the Wedge Group succeeding and continuing to invest in our region.

“Galvanizing is an important process which brings many benefits and it was certainly very interesting to see the full process that is undertaken to protect everyday objects that we see all around us.”

Mr Woolridge of the Wedge Group said:

“It was a real pleasure to welcome Mr Vara to the plant and have the opportunity to describe the unique benefits of galvanizing as a form of corrosion protection whilst showing him the process in action.”
