Vara Joins IPT Poppy Ride 2018 to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal.

Shailesh Vara MP has joined the IPT Poppy Ride 2018 to raise funds and awareness for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in the centenary year of the end of the First World War.

The event was organised by the Industry and Parliament Trust working in collaboration with the Royal British Legion.

More than 120 MPs and Peers took part in the 12 hour static bike ride, helping the Royal British Legion continue to provide lifelong financial, social and emotional support to the Armed Forces community.

This year the Poppy Appeal is encouraging the nation to wear their poppies with pride and back its ‘Thank You’ movement, celebrating the legacy, sacrifice and values of a generation who must never be forgotten.

Mr Vara said:

“With 100 years since the end of the First World War, it is important to remember those who sacrificed so much for the rights and freedoms we all enjoy today.

It really was good to see so many Parliamentarians getting involved and raising money for such a worthy cause.

As we mark the centenary year, let us also not forgot the contribution made by some 3 million commonwealth citizens, including 1.5 million from India, who fought alongside British forces in the fight for freedom.
