Shailesh Vara MP has recently met with newly appointed Service Director for Education for both Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council, Mr Jonathan Lewis.

Holding previous roles including Director of Education at Peterborough City Council and Northamptonshire County Council and Deputy Regional Schools Commissioner, Mr Lewis has significant experience of education in the local community.

In their meeting last week, Mr Vara and Mr Lewis discussed various issues concerning education including the need for Peterborough City Council to stop making excuses for some of the local schools' poor performances.

Mr Vara said:

"Jonathan brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to this role and is determined to improve both standards and results.

Every child deserves a high quality education and we must do all we can to ensure that this is the case.

I am delighted that Jonathan has such a strong vision for education across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire and I will support him in his efforts wherever I can."
