Vara welcomes business move to Peterborough

Shailesh Vara MP recently gave a warm welcome to the UK’s largest material handling solution supplier, Advance Handling; as they moved into their new premises in Orton Southgate, Peterborough.

Advance Handling, who were established in 1978, are members of the Sunnex Group, specialising in lifting and moving equipment offering a bespoke service, unique to their industry.

Previously based in Market Deeping for over 40 years, the company have now taken over the manufacturing of lifting tables and goods lifts for their sister company BD Lifts, which meant that a move was needed to larger premises. This new collaboration has seen the manufacturing of BD Lifts specialist products move from their Swedish site in Klippan, to the new Advance Handling site in Peterborough.

Mr Vara met with Managing Director, Mike Prince who gave a tour of the factory and showed many of the products that they have to offer.

As part of the growth strategy, the company is in the process of hiring local workers to fill a range of job roles including skilled manufacturing, welding, fitting, assembly testing and design roles.

Mr Vara said “I am delighted that Advance Handling have chosen to move to Peterborough, bringing new job opportunities to the area and allowing employees to learn some unique skills within the manufacturing industry.

It was great to meet with employees who have been with the company for many years and to get an insight into this expanding company, who are thriving in their industry due to the bespoke products that they are able to offer.”

Mike Prince, Managing Director of Advance Handling added: “The move to our much larger premises in Peterborough was part of an exciting group project to transfer manufacturing from one of our Swedish sites in Klippan to our new site here in the UK.  In these times of change and with Brexit looming, I see the introduction of a solid manufacturing enterprise with a range of local job opportunities, as a real positive story for Peterborough.”
