Vara visits Nene Park Academy

Shailesh Vara MP recently visited Nene Park Academy in Peterborough to meet with the new Principle, Rob Grover as well as some students.

Rob Grover joined the Academy earlier this year and discussed with Mr Vara his vision for the Academy as well as matters concerning education generally.

Mr Vara also had an opportunity to meet some students who were interested to hear about the role of an MP, local issues within the constituency and current political events in Parliament. As well as giving them a talk, Mr Vara took some questions on subjects such as mental health, tuition fees and Brexit.

Mr Vara also met with Libby Wilson and Eva Woods who are the school’s champions for ‘Send My Friend To School’, to which Mr Vara pledged his support.

Following the visit, Mr Vara said:

“I am always very pleased to visit Nene Park Academy and see the work that is being done with students and hear of the school’s recent achievements.

“The students I met showed a keen interest in politics and current affairs and it was welcoming to hear their thoughts for Britain’s future as we continue through these historic political times.

“Mr Grover has high expectations for the Academy and I was encouraged to see his passion and commitment to enhance the learning experience so that students can get the best start in life and achieve to their full potential”.

Mr Grover added:

“At Nene Park Academy, we are dedicated to providing wider opportunities to enhance our students’ learning. We were therefore delighted when Mr Vara agreed to visit our academy.

“The discussions he shared with our students about the role of an MP and the current political climate offered them an invaluable experience. This has not only supported them in their studies but has also developed their understanding of how they can affect change in their communities in the future.

“We would like to thank Mr Vara for his continued support of the academy and our students.”
