Vara visits Kids Country Food and Farming Day

Shailesh Vara MP joined over 4,000 children at the 7th annual Kids Country Food and Farming Day held at the East of England Arena in Peterborough.

Kids Country is run by the East of England Agricultural Society and enables Cambridgeshire farmers to provide hands-on, stimulating learning experiences around food, farming and the countryside to thousands of primary school children from the East of England region.

Mr Vara saw some of the activities that the children were participating in throughout the day which ranged from interactive demonstrations such as tractor rides and laying hedges, to hands-on experiences with farm animals, handling fish and sausage making.

Also attending the event were some farmers from Africa who were displaying some of the food and produce produced in their countries.

Mr Vara commented:

“It is always a pleasure to see many familiar faces from the local farming community at the annual Kids Country Food and Farming Day.

“It is a wonderful, fun day for children from across the East Anglian region to get out of the classroom and enjoy learning about British farming and food production and to get a better understanding as to how food gets from the fields that surround us, to the shelves in the supermarket.”
