Vara starts race at Leighton Bromswold Bike Fest.

Shailesh Vara MP attended the Leighton Bromswold Bike Fest in Huntingdonshire on Saturday 9th June, to help raise funds for charity. As well as meeting the organisers, he met some of the sponsors, cyclists and stall holders. Mr Vara also started off one of the races.

This was the fifth year that the Pedalling for Charity event has taken place which attracted over 340 cyclists. There were a number of races, covering various distances. It was an enjoyable occasion helping to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support based at the New Woodlands Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and EACH - East Anglia's Children's Hospices.

Appreciation must be given to the sponsors and supporters, which included local Tesco stores (Huntingdon, St Neots, Peterborough, Wellingborough and Kettering), Peter Lane and Pedal Barn Cycles of Thrapston.

The event attracted not only serious cyclists but also many families who took part in some of the shorter distances.

Mr Vara said:

“This was a very enjoyable occasion and also one which helped to raise funds for thoroughly worthwhile causes.

The annual event is getting more and more popular and it is good that it allows participation not only for the serious cyclist but also for families wishing to have a fun day out.

My congratulations to all those who took part. Thanks also to the sponsors and supporters and a big well done to the event organisers and all those living in Leighton Bromswold.”

A Bromswold Bike Fest spokesperson added: “We are very grateful to the record number of 340 cyclists who took part in Bromswold Bike Fest 2018. We are confident that once all the donations and fees are in, we will have surpassed £6,000, which will boost our total raised in just five years to over £30,000. We would also like to thank our sponsors, without whose support the event would not be possible. We are very proud that a village as small as Leighton Bromswold is able to put on such a fun-filled, family-friendly event for local cycling enthusiasts and to be able to raise money to support the Macmillan Cancer Support Woodlands Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and East Anglia Children’s Hospices.”

Next year’s event will take place on 8th June 2019.
