Vara Secures Meeting with Defence Minister for Red Arrows to come to RAF Wittering

Shailesh Vara MP has spoken in the House of Commons to press the case for RAF Wittering to be the new home for the RAF’s Red Arrows.

The Red Arrows are currently based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire but they are seeking a new home and RAF Wittering is one of three bases that has been shortlisted. The other two contenders are RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire and RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire.

During Defence Questions in the House of Commons Mr Vara said he believed RAF Wittering would be an ideal new location for the Red Arrows and he told the Defence Minister, James Heappey, that he was prepared to assist him and Ministry of Defence officials further if required, including having another Ministerial meeting.

In his reply the Minister said that a decision had not yet been taken and that he would welcome the opportunity to meet with Mr Vara and others who may be interested.
