Shailesh Vara, Member of Parliament for North West Cambridgeshire, supported Help for Heroes to raise funds at the Tesco store in Ramsey on Saturday. The money raised will be to support British servicemen injured on active duty overseas.

The event was organised by Mr James Bulloch, who was commissioned as an officer in 1985 and retired with the rank of Major in 2004. Major Bulloch served in the 16/5th Lancers and latterly the Scots Dragoon Guards with service in Bosnia and the first Gulf War.

Mr Vara said:

“This is a very worthwhile cause and I am delighted to support it. As a charity, Help for Heroes does a tremendous amount to provide support to injured servicemen and women who have done so much in the service of our country.

“Huntingdonshire has strong links with the military and we are proud of that connection. I hope local people will show their appreciation and give generously.”

Major Bulloch also said:

“At a time when our Armed Forces are very stretched in operations overseas it’s critical that the ongoing care for personnel is done in a proper way. What Help for Heroes can do is to help to make life better for soldiers who return home with wounds, both physical and psychological.”
