Vara Supports ‘Wear It Pink’ Breast Cancer Campaign

Shailesh Vara, Member of Parliament for North West Cambridgeshire, has signalled his ongoing support for the Wear It Pink breast cancer campaign by raising awareness of the fundraising event for Friday 29th October.

On that day supporters in schools, colleges and businesses throughout the country are encouraged to don a pink item in support of the campaign and to donate £2 to help fund research into beating breast cancer. Last year over one million people took part in Wear It Pink.

The charity currently finances 105 projects worth almost £17.5 million in 31 locations across the UK and Ireland. Every year, around 48,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women, and, although it is rare, 340 men are diagnosed with the condition too.

Mr Vara has previously introduced a Private Members’ Bill to increase the age range for routine breast cancer screening for women from the 50-70 age group to 45-75 year range. Moreover, in past years Mr Vara has hosted this event on several occasions in the House of Commons.

Mr Vara said: -

“This is a very worthwhile cause and I am delighted to be supporting it again. So many people are affected by this horrible disease – it is not just those who have it, but the impact extends to their families and loved ones too.

“I hope as many people as possible will take part to help raise the much needed funds.”
