Vara attends opening of children's playground
Shailesh Vara opened a new playground in Glinton on Saturday 6th June.
Shailesh Vara, MP for North West Cambridgeshire, opened a new playground in Glinton on Saturday 6th June.
Mr Vara joined Cllr John Holdich, Parish Councillors and local residents at the opening of the new facilities.
Cllr Holdich applied for funds from Peterborough City Council on behalf of his local villages and obtained a grant of £50,000 to build the playground. The Parish Council has provided an additional £25,000 which has been used to purchase specialist play equipment for toddlers.
This is the second play area to open in this part of Peterborough following the building of a similar new playground in Wittering, the opening of which Mr Vara also attended back in April.
Mr Vara said:
"Cllr Holdich and the Parish Council should be very pleased with their efforts. This is a tremendous new local facility for the residents of Glinton to enjoy."
Cllr Holdich said:
"I have been concerned at recent research which suggests that children do not spend as much time playing as they used to. That is a very sad fact and is why I have been so keen, working with Glinton Parish Council, to try to provide more opportunities for children to play with good quality play equipment.
